Rockwell, Don L.
Donlee Lavern (Don L.) Rockwell, 75, went to live with his Lord and Savior
Jesus Christ on April 14, 2017.
He was born February 18, 1942, in North Platte, Nebraska to Walter A. Rockwell
and Bessie Mae (Hughes) Rockwell. He grew up in the Arnold, Nebraska Area before
moving to Glenwood, Arkansas with his mother in 1956. He was graduated from
Kirby Arkansas High School in 1960. He became a Christian early in life in
Arnold. His mother was killed in an auto accident during his senior year of high
school. He elected to attend college in Magnolia, Arkansas, where he met the
Love of his life, Floy, while attending College View Baptist Church.
He was married to Floy Ann Leslie on June 23, 1963, and they moved to Lincoln,
Nebraska where Don was a senior and Floy freshman at the University of Nebraska.
After Don was graduated, the couple moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, where he
worked for the Federal Government, first for Social Security and then the
Farmers Home Administration, USDA. They later moved to Hope, Arkansas, for about
5 years before moving to Arnold, Nebraska, in 1972 where they farmed for 17
years. Two children were born to the couple, John David Rockwell and Donna Marie
After the 17 years on the farm Don returned to the Farmers Home Administration
working in Nebraska and Arkansas. In 1991, he and Floy moved to McCook, Nebraska
where he worked for the Farmers Home Administration until his retirement in
October 2003. Don and Floy continued to operate their small (184 acre) farm
outside McCook after retirement which gave Don an opportunity to collect and
restore tractors. Farming has always been his work and his play.
Don loved spending time with family and faith in God is the legacy he wished to
leave to his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years , Floy A. Rockwell; son and
daughter-in-law John and Karla Rockwell of Arnold, Nebraska; daughter and
son-in-law Donna and Steve Skalak of Lincoln, Nebraska; four grandchildren
Brandy and husband Justin Mason of Callaway, Nebraska, Daykin Schnell of
Safford, Arizona, Veronica Schnell and Jada Skalak of Lincoln, Nebraska; Four
great grandchildren, Jacob, Carson, Dawson and Cruz Mason of Callaway, NE;
brother-in-law David Leslie and wife Marcell of Texarkana, Arkansas;
Sister-in-law Barb Leslie of Pocatello, Idaho; and many nieces, nephews, and
Joining Don in heaven on the same day of his death, April 14, 2017, was his
brother-in-law Terry Randal (Randy) Leslie of Pocatello, Idaho after a long
battle with lung cancer.
Preceding Don in death was his father, Walter A. Rockwell and his mother, Bessie
Mae Rockwell; Father-in-law Charles Clinton (Clint) Leslie and mother-in-law
Mary Ellen Leslie.
Memorial Services are being held at Calvary Community Church in Lincoln, NE at
9:30 am on Thursday, April 20, 2017 with viewing before the services. Graveside
will be at Garfield Table Cemetery near Arnold, Nebraska at 5:00 pm Thursday,
April 20, 2017.
