Marshall, Marsha

Marsha Marie Marshall, 62, of Lincoln passed away Tuesday May 23, 2017, after a hard fought battle against colon cancer. Born May 20, 1955, in Columbus, NE, the daughter of Melvin and Dorothy Schmid. Marsha grew up on the family's farm just outside Richland, NE. She graduated from Columbus Lakeview High School in 1973. She attended the University of Nebraska-Kearney and in 1975 moved to Greely, CO, where she worked the Mortensen Packing Plant. In 1977 Marsha moved to Lincoln and she worked as a Loans Officer for NBC Bank over the next 10 years. Marsha met the love of her life, Richard, in the summer of 1979, and they were married on August 29, 1980. In the spring of 1988 they moved with their children into the house they would make their home for the next 29 years. In 1992 she began working from home for Janco Studio as a decorative painter. From 2001 until the business closed in 2009, she worked as the office manager for Janco. She started working for the Lancaster County Election Commission as a temporary front desk clerk. In 2015 she became the part-time warehouse manager for the Commission. Marsha loved being active and enjoying the outdoors; hunting, camping, and many shooting sports. Marsha and Richard were both life-time members of the Prairie Bowman Archery Range, and spent many wonderful summers attending the annual archery jamboree with their kids in Leadville, CO. Marsha had a green thumb for planting and gardening. She had the ability to take the most sickly plants and nurse them back to a healthy splendor. She had transformed their large open lot into a beautifully green landscaped oasis. Some of Marsha's favorite times were spent in her backyard, sharing a meal with family and friends. She loved painting and creating beautiful pieces of art. The joy of cooking and baking is something she has passed on to all her children. Some of the best memories came from the days spent every year baking Christmas cookies.

Marsha is survived by her loving husband, Richard, with whom she shared 36 years of marriage. She is survived by her three children: Zack and Leanne Marshall of Aurora, CO, Michiela Marshall of Omaha, and Jenna Marshall of Greenwood; three grand-children: Alexa, Jocelyn, and Benjamin Marshall; aunt Marcella Schmid of Columbus; mother-in-law Dollie Marshall of Lincoln; aunt-in-law Jane Schwartz of Fullerton; mother Dorothy Schmid of Columbus; four siblings: Sherri and Myron Schneider of Schuyler, Marty Schmid, Holly Schmid, Scott and Sonia Schmid all of Columbus; four siblings-in-law: Jackie and Phil Russell of Corvallis, OR, Karen and Jim Neal, Mike and Susan Marshall, Connie Houdek all of Lincoln; many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Preceded in death by father Melvin Schmid, father-in-law Benjamin Marshall, and uncle Kenneth Schmid.

A memorial service to celebrate her life is tentatively set for June 15 at 2:00 pm at Southwood Lutheran Church, 4301 Wilderness Hill Blvd. Lincoln, NE.  Any memorials are greatly appreciated and suggested to the Fisher House Foundation.

A special thanks to all those from Tabitha Hospice for their care and support during Marsha's last few weeks at home. And a special thanks to the nurses and doctors that cared for Marsha during her treatment.
