Keith Russell King was born on February 24, 1927 in Bennet, NE to Clark and
Lydia (Rohrbaugh) King. He passed away on June 14, 2017 in Lincoln, NE at the
age of 90.
Keith graduated from Bennet High School in 1944 before joining the military.
He entered the Navy during WWII and served as a Water Tender Third Class; he was
later recalled to service during the Korean War. Keith was stationed on a CVE
and worked in the engine room during both wars. After his military service
concluded he worked in the Lincoln area and farmed near Bennet before retiring
from BNSF Railway in 1991.
Keith was a member of the American Legion Post #280, Bennet Community Church,
the Escort Carriers Association, Camp Creek Threshers in Waverly, and was a past
member of the VFW. He served on the Bennet Town Board, NRD Watershed Board, and
also served as a volunteer firefighter in Bennet for 33 years.
He is survived by his wife Doris; daughters Kathy (Dave) May and Pam (Art)
Hutt; son Gary (Joyce) King; grandson Shane (Karis) King, their children Ayden,
Evan, and Korbin; grandson Josh (Ashley) May, their children Grayson, Sophia,
Knoxley, and LoRee; granddaughter Asha (Jason) Cooper, and their children Makara
and Gibson; and grandson Jacob (Erin) May and their son Barrett; sisters Joan
(Larry) Huenink and Vera Palmer. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant
brothers Vincent and Vernon, brother Harlan, sister Gladys Detmer, sister-in-law
Ruby King, and brother-in-law Jake Detmer.
Funeral service is Monday June 19, 2017 at 10:30 AM at the Bennet Community
Church with Rev. Darin Corder officiating with burial following at the Bennet
Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday June 18, 2017 from 2:00-5:00 PM at Butherus,
Maser & Love Funeral Home (4040 A St). Memorials can be directed to the Bennet
Community Church or American Legion Post #280.
