On June 15, 2017, LaVonne K. Pickel left this earth to join the love of her
life, Robert H. Pickel, in the house of the Lord. Bob and LaVonne enjoyed life
to the fullest by spending time with family and friends as well as traveling
across the country in their motor home and traveling the world. LaVonne was an
avid bridge player and spent many hours with friends over the bridge table. She
also loved to cook and entertain, as her extensive cook book collection shows.
It is not uncommon to look at one of her cook books and see many of pages with
the corners turned down and notes written alongside of the recipe. And of
course, she loved chocolate. She loved her glass of wine with dinner. She loved
dancing. She loved shopping. She loved spending time with friends and family.
LaVonne was a member of Sheridan Lutheran church and numerous organizations
including Eastern Star Chapter Temple #271 for over 50 years; past state and
local president of BPO Does #4; PEO chapter CS; Naphis Temple #66; Lincoln
Country Club; past member of Hillcrest Country Club and, a life-time member of
the Lincoln Community Playhouse Guild. She was also a member of several bridge
groups, Heritage League & Shrine Widows.
LaVonne served as a volunteer for youth at the Lincoln Regional Center for
over 13 years. She worked at Miller & Paine for many years in the cosmetic and
jewelry department. Later she was a buyer for Latsch's Inc. She so enjoyed her
work at both places.
LaVonne had a flare for design, style and presence. While she was a private
person, she was a very generous person and she will be greatly missed by friends
and family. Her survivors include cousins Nancy (Ron) Steeves & children Ryan
Steeves; Debbie (Larry) Schroder & family; Gary (Deb) Johnsen & children Bill
(Wendy) Johnsen & family; Angela (Dave) Busch & family all of Lincoln; Larry
(Dawn) Johnsen & children Dustin, Dena, Danica, Dane (Vita) Johnsen of Sioux
Falls, South Dakota; Vergie (Darryl) Cyr & daughter Cara Cyr & family of Crete;
Patty (Mike) Springer & children Casey & Matt Springer of Redding, California.
Visitation on Wednesday, June 21 at Butherus, Maser & Love, 4040 A St. from

Private burial will be followed by a memorial service at Sheridan Lutheran
church, 6955 Old Cheney, at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017.
