Gary Rudolph Salzman, son of Rudy and Sarah (Fischer) Salzman, was born on
June 6, 1939 in Lincoln, NE and passed away on June 29, 2017 in Lincoln, NE at
the age of 78.
Gary was a great, wonderful caring man. A great Husband, Father, Grandfather,
Great grandfather, Brother, Cousin, Uncle, Mentor, Coach, Partner, Friend, and
Neighbor. He loved his family dearly & would do absolutely anything to
help in any way he could. Always known to be generous and outgoing even
giving kids in restaurants a quarter or more. Most all sports activities
were deeply rooted in his whole life, basketball, softball, baseball & golf,
pool and swimming.
He was very well known at Madsenís Bowling & Billiards in a pool league that
is still running going on 30+ years. Gary and Lou would play up to 2-3 x a
week there. He was a father in every sense that when Lou worked
nights, he had kids breakfast out and lunch money as well as getting them up &
ready in the Am. He had a garden, and we always had a family dog
which he would walk at night throughout the neighborhood. He Coached
and pitched both adult & kids leagues of softball baseball and always treated
the team like family. At one point we had an above ground pool in the
backyard that he loved to be in and lounge in. Holidays were always spent
with family and Sundays were usually family dinner days also, going to Brays out
in Pleasant Dale or with Mom Sarahís eating & relaxing (napping with Tina).
Lou and Gary were united in holy matrimony June 17, 1961 in Lincoln Nebraska.
They raised three children, Jeni, Jay and Joleen.
Gary was a superior role model to his children as a father, teacher, and
friend. He developed many lasting friendships as well as family unity. He was a
faithful and supportive husband to his wife Lou, loving and caring always.
Gary is survived by his wife Lou Salzman; daughter Jenifer (Frank) Guzinski;
son Jay (Donna) Salzman; daughter Joleen (Rev. Robert) Perry; grandchildren
Christopher Harvey, Robert Salzman, Alex Salzman, Julius Elwell, Matthew Salzman,
Ian Perry; great-grandchildren Sara Riha, Lily Riha, Broden Perkins;
step-great-grandson Sam Schaefer; and brother Larry Salzman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson Zechariah Harvey; and
