Robert “Bob” Biel, 77, of Lincoln, passed away July 5, 2017. He was born
March 7,1940, to Henry and Catherine Biel of Lincoln. He graduated from Lincoln
High in 1958. and enlisted in the US Marine Corp. Upon his discharge from the
Marines, Bob went to work for the Lincoln Telephone Company for the next 35
years. He was an active member of the Communications Workers of America
7470, serving on many committees, the executive board, two terms as president,
and as a delegate to numerous state and national conventions.
Bob received the Al Bauer Award for outstanding labor leadership twice and in
1999 was inducted into the Nebraska AFL-CIO Labor Leaders Hall of Fame.
After retiring he was president of the Nebraska Alliance for Retired Americans.
He was on the Board of Directors for Members Own Credit Union and was adjutant
of American Legion Post 355. Bob was a kind and generous man who was a true
champion for the causes of the working middle class. He devoted much time and
effort trying to protect the rights and improve the lives of working men and
Bob is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of
52 years, Marilyn (Walters). Daughters and sons-in-law: Sherry (David) West of
Lincoln; Jennifer (Doug) Klaus of Odell; Audrey (Andy) Vering of
Manhattan, KS . 8 grandchildren, one sister and her spouse: Margaret (Don)
Mitchell of Roca and 12 nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Life will be held at Christ United Methodist Church on
Tuesday July 11th at 11am. Memorials may be given to the family for future
