Nissen, James A.



James A. Nissen, 80 of Lincoln passed away July 11, 2017. Jim was born August 2, 1936 and raised on a farm near Genoa, NE. Baptized and Confirmed at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church near Monroe, NE. Started life on a John Deere tractor at age 9, then at 16 he started driving a semi gravel truck for Gerhold Co. in Columbus, NE in the Summer months. At age 19 he moved to Lincoln and drove for Ready Mix Concrete. Spent some time in the Air Force and then in the Air Force Reserves. On December 5, 1959 Jim married Linda Heins and to this Union they had 3 children, Randy, Lauri and Craig. After that came 4 grandchildren Courtney, Wyatt, Madison and Bristol.

Preceded in death are his parents Hugo and Martha (Gerber), sister Mary Levos.

In 1966 Jim became an insurance Agent and spent 40+ years in insurance until July 2006 when he retired. Jim was a member of the American Legion for 40 + years. Jim enjoyed remodeling single family homes and started investing in rental homes. In 1977 he built a home on 3 acres and lived there for 40 years until they moved to Lincoln. Jim loved kids, coached little league baseball and softball for many years. In all the years in the insurance business Jim thought a lot of the people he insured and became close to many of them plus his associates. He enjoyed traveling and loved Nebraska football. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 50 years, ushered for 50 years, served as president of the PTL and a member of Romeo’s Breakfast Meetings. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed all of the family get-togethers.

Visitation will be Friday 12-9pm with the family present from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Celebration of Jim’s Life will be Saturday 9:30am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 724 S. 12th St. Burial will follow at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery.

I got to know Jim when he and I worked for Shelter Insurance. He was a great friend, father and grandfather. My condolences to his family.

I enjoyed working with Jim at Shelter Insurance Co. for a number of years. He was always such a nice person to work with. I'm so sorry for your loss. Jim was a valuable asset to our Company.

I grew up next door to the Nissens. Jim's daughter, Lauri and I were, are are, the best of friends. Jim was always quick with a smile and helped Lauri and I with our softball. He was a great neighbor, and friend.

As owner of Murphy's QP store Jim was a customer of mine for many years. He always had a smile on his face and a cheerful outlook on life. My deepest condolences to his family.
