OGrady, James


James F. O’Grady, 85, of Grand Island, died October 11, 2017.  Mr. O’Grady was born February 6, 1932, in Dawson, Nebraska, where he lived before moving to Lincoln.  Jim graduated from Cathedral High School in 1950, and soon after joined the Marines where he witnessed atomic bomb testing and served as a mechanic in the Korean War.  Upon his return, he worked for the U.S. Post Office for 30 years.  On May 28, 1960, he married Lorraine Joyce Arlt at Sacred Heart Church in Lincoln.  To this union five children were born.  In 1972, they moved to an acreage near Adams where they were active members of St Martin’s parish in Douglas.  Jim and Lorraine were also active pro live supporters for all stages of life.  Sgt O’Grady was a member of American Legion Post #105 in Hickman and a VFW member. 

Preceding James in death were his wife of 47 years, Lorraine (Lori), sons Patrick and Thomas, brothers Gene and Clinton, sisters Colleen, Patricia and Marguerite.

Survivors include daughters Rose (husband Tom) Cason of Round Rock, TX, Jean Ann (husband Shawn) Fletcher of Grand Island; son Daniel (wife Kari) of Hastings; daughter-in-law Chris of Lincoln; sister Catherine Rokke and brother Charles (wife Donna) of Lincoln; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 14, 2017, from 9 am to 10 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3128 S St, Lincoln.

Rosary will be at 10 am Saturday at church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Leo Kosch officiating. 

Burial with Military Honors will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at St Martin’s Catholic Cemetery in Douglas, NE. 

Memorials are suggested to St Gianna Women’s Homes.
