Darlene Francis Noonan was born January 13, 1932 in Cornlea, Nebraska to
Michael T & Paula F. Noonan. She was the first of five children. They lived in
Odell, Exeter & York and when she was about thirteen she moved to Monroe with
her grandparents to help on the farm. A couple of years later she moved to
Lincoln and attended Lincoln High School, graduating in 1949. She met the
love of her life, Ernie Sievers, and they were married on January 13, 1951.
Darlene and Ernie liked to go dancing and could cut a mean rug! They
frequented The Legion Club and VFW. They also enjoyed playing cards, Keno and
the occasional trip to Las Vegas! One of their hobbies was maintaining their
apartments. They were married for over 40 years before Ernie lost his battle
with cancer in 1991.
After the kids were in school, Darlene worked at Gibson's Discount store,
which later became Pamida, and was one of the initial employees when the Target
store opened on North 48th Street. She worked at Target for over 25 years,
retiring in 2009.
She was 100% Irish and full of spirit! She had a kind heart, but also had a
stubborn streak! She enjoyed siting on the back porch on summer evenings and
feeding the birds & squirrels. She loved spending time with her grand kids. It
was a treat for the grand kids to spend the night at grandmas house! They would
watch movies, play cards and it always included a special trip to Village Inn!
She also passed the time watching TV, reading the newspaper and doing crossword
