Kavanaugh, LaVern F.
LaVern F. Kavanaugh, of Lincoln, was born on March 6, 1926 and died on
January 4, 2018 at the age of 91. He graduated in 1945 from Allen, NE High
School and later worked on his parent’s farm. He was drafted into the U.S. Army
in 1950, where he was a Medic stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio,
Texas. In 1952 he moved to Kansas City, MO where he worked for General Motors.
He married Margery Kessler of Kansas City in 1952. Later that year the couple
moved to a farm in Northeast Nebraska. In 1964 they moved to Lincoln, NE where
LaVern worked at the Water Department and had his own lawn mowing service. After
retirement LaVern continued working as a guard for Securitus Security. In 1980,
he married Rosemary Royal. LaVern is survived by his wife Rosemary, three
children (Janet, Gene, and Roger and wife Diane Kavanaugh), son-in-law, Kenn
Miller, four grandchildren (Kyle and Kollin Miller, Kallie and husband Bryan
Easley, and Alayna Kavanaugh) and four great grandchildren (Landon, Aislynn, Bo,
and Lennox Easley). LaVern also had seven stepchildren. He was a member of
Legion Club Post #3, and the Knights of Columbus. He loved dancing, playing
cards, traveling, horseback riding and being with his family. LaVern is preceded
in death by his parents Ella Rose and Maurice Kavanaugh, his wife Margery, and
daughter Karen Kavanaugh Miller.
Funeral services 10:30 AM, Monday, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 7601 Vine
Street, in Lincoln. Burial following at Calvary Catholic Cemetery with Military
and Knights of Columbus rites. Visitation Sunday at Butherus-Maser and Love from
2-7 PM with family present from 5-7 PM, rosary following. In lieu of flowers, it
would be appreciated if memorials would go to the family for future masses and
the Karen Kavanaugh Miller Scholarship Fund at UNL.
