Kavanaugh, LaVern F.


 

LaVern F. Kavanaugh, of Lincoln, was born on March 6, 1926 and died on January 4, 2018 at the age of 91. He graduated in 1945 from Allen, NE High School and later worked on his parent’s farm. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1950, where he was a Medic stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. In 1952 he moved to Kansas City, MO where he worked for General Motors. He married Margery Kessler of Kansas City in 1952. Later that year the couple moved to a farm in Northeast Nebraska. In 1964 they moved to Lincoln, NE where LaVern worked at the Water Department and had his own lawn mowing service. After retirement LaVern continued working as a guard for Securitus Security. In 1980, he married Rosemary Royal. LaVern is survived by his wife Rosemary, three children (Janet, Gene, and Roger and wife Diane Kavanaugh), four grandchildren (Kyle and Kollin Miller, Kallie and husband Bryan Easley, and Alayna Kavanaugh) and four great grandchildren (Landon, Aislynn, Bo, and Lennox Easley).  LaVern also had seven stepchildren. He was a member of Legion Club Post #3, and the Knights of Columbus. He loved dancing, playing cards, traveling, horseback riding and being with his family. LaVern is preceded in death by his parents Ella Rose and Maurice Kavanaugh, his wife Margery, and daughter Karen Kavanaugh Miller.

Funeral services 10:30 AM, Monday, at St. John’s Catholic Church, 7601 Vine Street, in Lincoln. Burial following at Calvary Catholic Cemetery with Military and Knights of Columbus rites. Visitation Sunday at Butherus-Maser and Love from 2-7 PM with family present from 5-7 PM, rosary following. In lieu of flowers, it would be appreciated if memorials would go to the family for future masses and the Karen Kavanaugh Miller Scholarship Fund at UNL.

Roger, Diane, Alayana and Kavanaugh family, we are so sorry to hear of your loss. Your dad always had a smile on his face and was such a joy to see at Alayna's games. We especially enjoyed having him for Thanksgiving. Our deepest love and sympathy. Mike, Sandi, Mickey and Mackenzie
