Theye, Dennis Dean


 

Dennis Dean Theye 67 of Lincoln, NE passed away in his home after a courageous battle with ALS on January 5, 2018.

Dennis was born to Clarence and Trientje “Tena” Theye in Odell, Nebraska on September 7, 1950.  He was a graduate of Odell High School, then attended the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture, Curtis, Nebraska.

After serving in the military, he continued to work at Campbell’s Nurseries, in Lincoln Nebraska, since 1970 as a Landscape Designer/Manager.  Through his years of work he touched the lives of many people designing and planting their outdoor spaces.

Dennis was a wonderful and simple man.  He was very devoted to his wife, parents, and all family members.  He treasured time spent with them, especially his grandchildren.

He enjoyed spending time at his lakeside camper with family and friends fishing and having fun times.

Dennis loved to play baseball and continued to play until he could no longer swing his bat.   Dennis started playing little league baseball at Lone Elm in Kansas.  He continued to play Legion baseball in Odell and Wymore, Nebraska.  He played adult baseball and fast pitch ball in the Lincoln and Omaha area for many years.   He participated with the “Theye family” softball teams.  Dennis was a recipient of the “Dennis Harvey Sportsmanship” award for his perfect balance of sportsmanship and competition.  He played in All Star games through the Men’s Adult Baseball league.  Since 2004, he participated in the Adult Men Baseball National Championship tournaments held yearly in Phoenix, Arizona where he played with a team out of San Diego, California. 

Dennis was a man of strong faith.  He is a member of the College View Seventh Day Adventist church where he served as one of the church’s Deacons.

Survivors include wife Jody Jameson-Theye of Lincoln, Daughters Kristi Allen & fiancé’ Art Wright of Lincoln, Trisha (John) Grimm of Portland, TX, Erika Hull & fiancé’ Aaron Ridgley of Lincoln, Eugena (Randy) Hasbrouck of Milford, 1/.ol grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, mother, Trientje “Tena” Theye, sisters Joyce Craig, Norma Kissack, Donna (Gene) Saathoff, brother Daylon (Kay) Theye, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.    Preceded in death by Father, Clarence Theye, brothers-in-laws Art “Butch” Craig and Jack Kissack.

Visitation will be: Thursday 9-9 and w/ family 6-8pm at funeral home, Friday 1 hour before service at church.

Funeral will be Friday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1144 M St. at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be at Immanuel Stateline Lutheran Church Cemetery, Wymore, NE, Friday at 3:00p.m.

I was so very sorry to learn of Dennis‘s passing. He and I were classmates in the Odell high school class of 1968. Memories of class projects and times are very special. I am so very sorry for your loss.

I JUST READ OF DENNIS THEYE'S PASSING IN THE NEWSPAPER. SO SORRY I MISSED THE BISITATION, FUNERAL TODAY. I PLAYED DOUBLES RACQUETBALL IN LEAGUES AND TOURNEY'S WITH DENNIS FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. ALSO, HE WAS MY FAVORITE PERSON AT CAMPBELL'S NURSERY. I'M TRULY SORRY. HE WILL BE GREATLY MISSED. GOD ONLY TAKES THE VERY BEST!

I enjoyed playing baseball with Denny for many years on our JW team. I will miss throwing the ball to our first baseman. He will be missed.

I worked with Dennis at the Home and Garden for more than 20 years. He was so creative, kind and hard working. He was a great friend.
