Delores J. Kaufman, age 85 of Lincoln, passed away on January 23, 2018.
The first of two children of John and Mollie Fischer, Delores was born June 11,
1932, in Lincoln, Nebraska. Delores and her brother Melvin grew up in the
German Russian North Bottoms in Lincoln. After Graduating from Lincoln
High School, she worked for Elgin Watch Company. Delores married David L.
Kaufman on June 19, 1954. They began dating while he was a Marine serving
on the USS St. Paul during the Korean War. They opened Kaufman’s Furniture
and Appliances in the heart of University Place in January of 1959. They
were married for 44 years before Dave’s death in 1998. Dave always
referred to Delores as his partner, in everything. She was a past worthy
matron of her Eastern Star Chapter and was very involved with her Bible study
group, church choir and leadership, and taught Sunday school at Friedens
Lutheran Church. Delores and Dave had two children Denise Kaufman and David
Kaufman (married to Nicole Johnson). She was the best grandma in the world
to her four grandchildren Meghan Manary, Elijah, Josiah and Anaise Kaufman who
loved her more than anything. She spent countless hours playing with them
on her driveway, taking them to Champions and going to movies together.
Delores and Dave seemed to know everyone in Lincoln through their connections
with the furniture store, the Kaufman and Fischer families, the Masons, Eastern
Star, as well as Friedens Church. Her special friends included cousins
Richard and Virginia Fischer, Jeanette Deines (deceased), Joyce Lattimer
(deceased), Alice Spomer, Donna Kahler, Eunice Worster and Mary VanDyke.
Delores is survived by her children, David Kaufman and wife Nicole, Denise
Kaufman; grandchildren Meghan Manary, Elijah, Josiah and Anaise Kaufman.
She is preceded in death by her husband David L Kaufman; parents John and Mollie
Fischer; brother Melvin.
A celebration of her life well lived is scheduled for Saturday Feb 10, 2018, at
10:00 AM at Friedens Lutheran Church, 6th & D Street, with Pastor Kate Woolf
officiating. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park.
Visitation will be on Friday, Feb. 9, from 10 AM to 9 PM with family present
from 4:00- 6:30 at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home 4040 A Street.
Memorials are suggested to Friedens Lutheran Church or Shriners Hospitals for

|Denise, I am so sorry about the loss of your mom. I have so many good memories of coming to your house to play when we were younger. And playing in your attic. And running around the furniture store. Your mom was always so nice to me, and she always had a smile on her face and was so happy. I will keep you in my prayers.|

|Denise, David & Families - My deepest sympathies in the loss of your mom and grandma Delores. I spent a lot of time at the furniture store growing up and loved visiting your house on St. Paul. I will always remember Delores' beautiful smile and wonderful hugs. She was so caring and always remembered my daughter on her birthday and special times throughout the year. Delores was such a good friend to my mom. I've so missed seeing her when visiting my mom these last few years. I hope that you all know how many lives Delores touched through teaching Sunday School and volunteering at Friedens. I will miss Delores greatly and hope that you are all comforted by your memories of her. |
