Paul John Malzahn of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away on the evening of
Thursday, March 1, 2018 surrounded by his girls. The son of the late Lester and
Lydia Weinrich Malzahn, he was born in Melrose Park, Illinois on June 8, 1950,
and has lived in Lincoln, NE for the past 22 years.
A lover of sacred music, Paul praised God through song by singing in choirs
from the time he was a child through retirement. Listening to organ music was a
joy throughout his life starting in childhood with his first organ concert at
age 11 listening to Virgil Fox to being able to listen to the works of Paul Manz
as often as he wanted in retirement. He was a faithful member of Trinity
Lutheran Church; serving at various times as an Elder, choir member, and
A graduate of Concordia, Fort Wayne with a bachelor’s degree in theology, and
a graduate of Lake Forest School of Management with an MBA, Paul started his
career at the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in Chicago and then worked for the
Union Pacific Railroad in Omaha for 20 years. Like a true Chicago-native,
Paul continued his love for Chicago-style hot dogs and Italian beef sandwiches,
seeking out the best replacements he could find in Nebraska.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Weiss Malzahn; three daughters,
Stephanie Malzahn of St. Louis, Missouri, Jessica Malzahn Formenti (Federico) of
Oxford, UK, and Alison Malzahn Brack (Nathaniel) of Colorado Springs, Colorado;
one granddaughter, Joy Nella Formenti; one sister, Jeannie Frank Beyer (John) of
Long Beach, California; and a number of nieces and nephews. His is
preceded in death by his brother Lyle David Malzahn.
A celebration to worship God and remember Paul’s life will be held on Friday,
March 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lincoln, NE with Rev.
Robert Benke officiating. The family will greet friends from 1:00 pm until
2:00 pm prior to the service in the sanctuary.
Paul was a great supporter of Lutheran Education. The family requests
that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Lincoln Lutheran or Trinity
Lutheran Church and School.
