John Lee Holland, 63, of Lincoln, died on March 29, 2018. He was born
on September 15, 1954, in Nürnberg, Germany, to Johnny and Orva (McLaughlin)
Holland. He was baptized May 17, 1964, at Central Oahu Christian Church in
Wahiawa, Oahu, Hawaii. He graduated from Deshler High School in 1972 and then
graduated from Southeast Community College in Milford. John worked as a rail
detector operator for Burlington Northern Railroad and retired from this career.
After he retired he did machine maintenance in casinos in Hawthorne, Nevada.
John moved back to Lincoln in 2013 to care for his mother after spending most
of his adult life in Washington, Montana, and Nevada. Being an Eagle Scout, John
enjoyed the mountains and outdoor life tremendously. He liked to camp, hunt, and
fish. Indoor activities he enjoyed included shooting pool and throwing darts.
John was also a huge Husker fan and followed all of the Nebraska teams!
John is survived by his four siblings: Robert (Dawn) Holland of South Korea,
Debra Holland of Norfolk, Dan (Diane Tharnish) Holland of Lincoln, and Tom
(Susan) Holland of Lincoln; one grandson, Dawsun Gonzalez, of Sparks, Nevada;
stepchildren; nieces and nephews; and loving friend, Tina Wagner. He is preceded
in death by his parents; daughter, Heather Holland; and Heather’s mother, Gail.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be 4:00 PM on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at
Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, 4040 A Street, Lincoln 68510. There will be
no public visitation as John’s wishes were for cremation. Memorials are
suggested to the family for further designation.
