Willemsen, Henry "Hank"
Henry “Hank” Willemsen, age 92, passed away April 2, 2018. Hank was
born November 20, 1925, in David City Nebraska, to John and Anna Willemsen.
He graduated from David City High School and earned Bachelor, Masters, and a
six-year degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. A veteran of the
United States Marine Corp, he served in WWII in the Pacific Theater in Saipan,
Okinawa, and the occupation of Japan. He spent his career as a teacher and
coach, first at McCook and then at Lincoln Northeast High School for 43 years.
Hank was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, a member of American Legion
Post #3, a member of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln chain gang for 40 years,
a life member of the Nebraska Coaches Association, a member of the Lincoln
Northeast High School Athletic Hall of Fame, and was a volunteer at St.
Elizabeth’s Hospital for 25 years.
Hank is survived by his wife Grace Larson Willemsen; his son Larry and wife
Susan; his daughter Nancy her partner Steve Little ; his granddaughter Ashley
Shull and her husband Rob and great grandchildren Kaylee, Hunter and Megan
Shull; step sons Matt Larson and wife Tammy; Chris Larson, and grandchildren
Lauren Allison, Jack and Charlie Larson.
He is preceded in death by his parents John and Anna Willemsen.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at 10:00
A.M. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 6111 Morrill Ave in Lincoln with Fr. Troy
Schweiger officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9 to 9
at Butherus Maser and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A St.
Rosary will be on Wednesday at 7:30 pm at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral
Memorials are suggested to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital
